INTEGRITY HOUSES

Program Concept: self-managed, clean and sober, shared housing for single homeless adults. We gratefully acknowledge the pioneering work of Oxford House on which we base Integrity Houses.

"We are happy to be able to help COTS graduates just by giving them the same opportunity anyone else would have. We never have a moment's worry and we are especially pleased that our tenants love the house and have made it their home." Karen Saunders

"I believe in second chances. I have special feelings for people in need who are trying to rebuild and improve their lives. I'm in a position to offer affordable rent in exchange for great tenants who take a lot of pride in being under a roof of their own." Dot Henderson

Basic Principles:

  • Privately owned homes leased to COTS graduates
  • Offers COTS graduates stable, permanent and supportive housing option
  • Offers homeowners reliable pre-screened tenants
  • Homes ideally offer sufficient room for group living
  • Homes must be financially self-supporting with affordable rents
  • Tenants are committed to sobriety
  • Self-managed and democratically run through cooperative decisions

Structure:

Identify local property owners who are interested in leasing their home as an “Integrity House” for shared, affordable living. COTS Manager selects the tenants, sets up the furnishings, and facilitates the lease process between owner and tenants. Rent is paid by tenant directly to owner. Tenants are responsible for the smooth operation of the home. COTS will intervene only if necessary to resolve exits and to refer eligible tenants to fill vacancies.
