* Please note that any volunteer activities requiring interaction with the children at the shelter require a background check and fingerprinting (the volunteer is responsible for the expenses incurred for these procedures).

 

Office Assistant – Will work in the Petaluma COTS Family Shelter, the administrative offices, or the Opportunity Center. Ability to answer phones, type, file, data entry along with other general office duties. Minimum age for this position is 18 years old.

Petaluma Kitchen - Morning drivers needed to pick up goods at local grocery stores. Soup stirrers, servers and clean-up help needed. Two hour shifts or help from 8:00am to 1:00pm.  A desire to drink coffee and nibble on day-old pastries welcomed, but not required.

Children’s Program – Assist with Children’s Haven daycare program. Assist teachers with care of children. Bring personal talents in to share i.e. artists, musicians. Requires a six-month commitment. Minimum age for this position is 16 years old. Individuals over 18 must also have a background check and be fingerprinted.*

Driver – Drive homeless families to various appointments. Must have valid driver’s license and insurance. Days and some evening hours. Available to drive to and from appointments. There also a need for individuals with trucks to haul pieces of furniture to various sites including the dump. Minimum age for this position is 26 years old and must have a vehicle.

Tutor – After school at the Children’s Haven. Assist grade school students with homework. Especially need tutors proficient in Math and English. Minimum age for tutoring is 18 years old (with some exceptions). Individuals over 18 must also have a background check and be fingerprinted.*

Gardening – Gardening, planting, weeding, special projects that include residents welcome.

Maintenance and yardwork. –Sundays OK. Minimum age 18 years old.

Cooking – Cook meals to supplement the church program meals that feed folks staying in the churches or synagogues for shelter. Minimum age 16 years old.

Weekend Visitors – Visit with families, primarily on the weekends. This is separate from the Children’s Haven. Set up special projects to do with the children, cooking, art, games, etc. Minimum age 18 years old. Individuals over 18 must also have a background check and be fingerprinted.*
