John Records to Depart as Executive Director; Mike Johnson to Lead COTS

John_and_Mike_-_transition_letter.jpg

After 21 years of leadership at COTS, I’m stepping aside effective June 30. My good friend and colleague Mike Johnson, who now manages our daily work as Chief Operating Officer, will become our CEO effective July 1.

On our homepage you can watch a short video that will introduce Mike. He is a wonderful human being with an amazing personal story, and has a powerful vision for how COTS can even better serve our community.

I’ll continue to support COTS as a member of the Board of Directors, and in an advisory role for outreach, development, and program innovation to further benefit COTS and our community.

It is so fulfilling to have guided COTS to its 25th successful year! Together, we’ve provided desperately needed help to over 20,000 children and adults. Thousands have gone from living on the streets to homes of their own.

Thank you from the depths of my heart for your support and good will. You and people like you in our community have rallied magnificently to support COTS in the wake of severe government funding losses, and to keep our precious work strong so that kids and adults get the food, shelter and help they need to build great lives.

Mike and I would love it if you can come to our transition open house on June 6 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at the Mary Isaak Center (900 Hopper Street). We can chat and you can meet Mike if you haven’t already, and we can all enjoy the company of our COTS community.

With appreciation and my best wishes,

John Records
Executive Director

P.S. People have asked me if I’m retiring. No way! I have several exciting projects for my next steps including working to further advance COTS as a national leader in our field, speaking at conferences, training other leaders, and ongoing research and collaboration with key academics and influencers in the field of homelessness.
